SIERRA GORDA
LAS 5 REAL DE MINAS
La Sierra Gorda es una rama de la Sierra Madre Oriental que corre a lo largo de la costa oriental del Golfo de México y compone los picos más altos en el estado de Guanajuato.
Estas montañas contienen una extensa cantidad de minerales, como lo demuestra el número de minas allí. Hay 5 Real de Minas (real en el sentido de que fueron protegidas por la caballería española) en esta zona: Mineral de Pozos, Xichú, Victoria, Santa Catarina, y Tierra Blanca.
Más adelante en Querétaro encontraremos las 5 misiones construidas por Fray Junípero Serra antes de que construyera muchas de las famosas misiones de California a partir de 1769: Misión Dolores, Santa Clara, San José, Santa Cruz, Carmel, San Luiz Obispo, San Antonio, San Juan Bauptista, La Soledad, San Miguel, Buenaventura, San Gabriel, San Diego, y San Juan Capistrano.
No hay mucho que ver en el camino de las ruinas antiguas y/o arquitectura elegante aparte de las propias misiones, pero el campo es realmente espectacular.
El hombre es atraído a las montañas por muchas razones: económica, científica, estética, y por pura aventura. Aquí están los últimos trozos de desierto tan necesarios para el escape ocasional de las presiones de la vida moderna. Las montañas ya eran viejas cuando el hombre apareció, sin embargo, ofrecen el desafío y la oportunidad del futuro.
Esta parte de la Sierra Gorda es, como se suele decir, fuera de lo común, una aventura al volante que vale la pena tomar. Pero si eres de corazón débil, no vayas más allá de Santa Catarina. Hay otra manera de llegar a ver las misiones de Fray Junípero Serra, un poco menos aventurera, que te describiré más tarde.
Para conducir todo el camino hacia Xichú es un hermoso viaje, pero es 100 millas de ida y vuelta en un camino de terracería en la alta montaña con poco que ver al final de esta. Así que nos concentraremos en el otro Real de Minas.
Tome la salida hacia el sur desde Mineral de Pozos hacia San José Iturbide (llamado así por un presidente y emperador de México). siga recto a través de la intersección hacia la comunidad de Dr. Mora y prosiga adelante.
Cuando llegues a las afueras de San José y llegues a la primera intersección, gira a la izquierda (es la primera izquierda sobre el camino en el que te encuentras). Ve varias cuadras por esta calle lateral, cruza las vías del ferrocarril, y gira a la izquierda de nuevo en una autopista que sale de la ciudad hacia Victoria y Santa Catarina. (Verás las señales de la carretera justo allí mientras cruzas las vías.)
El viaje hasta el final es de alrededor de 199 kilómetros o 124 millas solo de ida.
Esta zona de alto desierto está llena de muchas variedades de cactus.
Algunos de ellas muy apreciados por coleccionistas de tan lejos como Japón. Hay leyes ambientales que protegen a muchas especies amenazadas, así que ten cuidado de intentar cosechar alguna. Esta sección de la autopista no tiene mucho que ofrecer hasta justo antes de llegar a Tierra Blanca.
Pero entonces llegarás a una última colina y allí ante ti se extenderá un valle fantástico muy por debajo. Se pueden ver parches desnudos de la tierra blanca, obviamente, de donde esta área obtuvo su nombre. Y puedes ver más de una mina de trabajo. (Esta zona no era famosa por sus minas de oro y plata, pero muchos metales y minerales eran y aún son extraídos aquí.)
LAS PODEROSAS MONTAÑAS
Es fácil ver los resultados de la agitación geológica que ocurrió aquí hace millones de años trayendo esas venas de minerales a la superficie de la tierra.
Un patrón de formación de montañas se distingue por grandes caras escarpadas de roca. Estas son montañas «con fallas», formadas cuando la presión subterránea obliga a una masa entera a romperse limpiamente de otra. Por un lado, las rocas suben; en el otro, desaparecen. La separación ocurre donde hay una línea de debilidad, una falla, en la corteza terrestre.
Ten cuidado con el descenso al valle. La ciudad de tierra blanca está todavía más adelante. Cuando vayas llegando continúa conduciendo recto. La ciudad está abajo a la derecha. ¡Real de Minas Tierra Blanca, no hay mucho que ver ahora!
Las montañas de aquí en adelante son espectaculares. ¡Algunos de los picos más altos son casi 10,000 pies de altura! Más adelante en el camino encontrarás una curva y verás montañas de roca sólida y un bosque de cactus de órgano, algunos miden hasta 10 pies de altura.
Cuando pensamos en rocas solemos pensar en piedras, rocas rotas, enterradas bajo el suelo y la vida vegetal, pero aquí todo está expuesto y desnudo. (Edward Abbey en «Desert Solitaire».)
Estas colinas cubiertas de rocas están salpicadas de miles de cactus. Estos magníficos centinelas con sus grandes números están a la guardia de la carretera.
Pronto llegarás a la intersección de Santa Catarina y Victoria.
El campo es espectacular en ambas direcciones, pero no así las ciudades, así que te sugiero seguir hacia Santa Catarina.
(Para los débiles de corazón den la vuelta aquí y vuelvan a San José Iturbide. Desde allí se puede volver a San Miguel y hacer el resto del viaje otro día, o continuar, por la carretera 57, a Querétaro y la ruta fácil a Jalpan (el viaje a Jalpan desde aquí tomará al menos 4-5 horas más), pero, en cualquier caso, siga leyendo.)
Justo antes de entrar en Santa Catarina toma el camino a la derecha, continuando te llevará a un pedazo de terracería de más o menos 45 millas de largo. El paisaje es espectacular y bien vale la pena el viaje si se puede hacer. (Si has pasado algún tiempo explorando México esto no es nada!) ¡Te tomará alrededor de 2 horas y media regresar a la carretera pavimentada, pero lo lograrás! … hay un tipo especial de belleza a cada hora que ofrece la montaña, belleza que el hombre percibe sin partici¬par, belleza a la que uno se siente un extraño. EL ALTO DESIERTO
Usted puede sentir el cambio en el clima casi immedíadamente a medida que comienza el descenso de las montañas frescas al alto campo desértico. ¡Los altos acantilados y barrancos son espectaculares a lo largo de todo el camino!
Observe los relaves de diferentes colores de la tierra que se derraman por los lados de algunas de las montañas, señales de las minas de trabajo en lo alto de los acantilados. Los pueblos que pasarán por el camino son de los indígenas de esta zona, Chichimecas (Jonaces & los Indios Pames). Parece que se han convertido en cristianos, pastores de ovejas, cabras y mineros.
Varias veces a lo largo del camino se llega a intersecciones. La primera es Tolimán a la derecha, pero vaya a la izquierda. La siguiente está bastante lejos. Llegará a un amplio espacio despejado en el lado de una colina. Gire ligeramente a la derecha ey vaya cuesta abajo. Un poco más adelante girará ligeramente a la derecha de nuevo, y finalmente irá a la izquierda en la siguiente. ¡Si no está seguro de Dónde está, pregunte! ¡Todo lo que debe hacer es decir «Hal pan» y apunte con su dedo!
(Tolimán era un asentamiento prehispánico de los Otomies y se llama la «Puerta a la Sierra Gorda». Los Otomies fueron aliados de los españoles contra los Chichimecas.)
Justo cuando comienza a pensar que el camino de tierra nunca terminará usted llegará a una última curva y verá la más magnífica vista del viaje hasta el momento. Lejos a través de un valle a la derecha hay una colosal montaña de escarpada roca con un pequeño pueblo suizo en su base. Esta es Peña Miller (la roca de Miller) y el pueblo es del mismo nombre. El camino aquí es lo suficientemente ancho para detenerse para tomar fotos.
Un poco más adelante llegará a la carretera pavimentada. Si está listo para almorzar o tomar una bebida fresca gire a la derecha en la carretera pavimentada a Peña Miller. De lo contrario gire a la izquierda.
Después de recuperar energías regrese por el camino que venía en la carretera pavimentada hacia Querétaro.
Esta es la autopista 120. Usted viajará hasta llegar a un desvío a la izquierda marcado como Jalpan y Xilita que es un pueblo más al este de Jalpan. El otro camino está marcado como San Juan del Río. Lo tomará cuando venga de regreso.
(En este punto le sugiero que tome nota de sus millas en el odómetro y también cuando llegue a Jalpan ya que cuando regrese, de esta manera, sabrá qué tan lejos tiene que ir. ¡El paisaje distrae muchísimo!)
¡Las montañas aquí son incluso más altas que antes! Llegará a un área con fila sobre fila de montañas hasta donde su vista alcance. Comenzando con picos oscuros y las otras filas volviéndose más azules y ligeras una tras otra en el horizonte.
EL BOSQUE
Aquí comenzará a ver un nuevo tipo de paisaje de montaña. ¡Bosques! ¡Si usted ha estado en las tierras altas centrales de México en algún momento, usted sabrá lo maravilloso que es ver un bosque!
Una parte importante de la economía de esta área es la madera. Aquí y allá verá pequeños aserraderos que procesan madera.
¡Usted va a conducir a lo largo de este camino por encima, a través de y a veces por debajo de las nubes! El pico más alto de la zona es el Cerro Pengüicas, Penguin Mountain, ¡a 3,191 metros (10.370 pies) de altura! (Si estás viajando aquí durante el invierno, prepárate para la nieve.)
Desde aquí descenderás hasta casi el nivel del mar cuando llegues a Jalpan.
TIERRA de los JONACES & los indios PAMES
Gran parte de la tierra que ha atravesado es de los feroces indios Jonaces y Pames de tiempos inmemoriales. Estas tribus nómadas eran miembros de un grupo de tribus ligeramente llamadas Chichimecas (bárbaros) por los Aztecas.
En 1740 era reportado lo siguiente por el ejército español acerca de los Jonaces:
Después de un siglo y medio de experimento, aún no se han encontrado los medios para llevarlos a la sumisión. Todas las expediciones militares emprendidas contra ellos han fracasado; Los franciscanos, agustinos y dominicanos también han desperdiciado su tiempo en los esfuerzos de evangelización. He llegado a la conclusión de que los Jonaces son imposibles de convertir.
Dos años y medio después organizaron su último levantamiento «poniendo todo al fuego y la espada». «Recibieron la misma retribución en su propia moneda por parte de los españoles capturando y ejecutando a sus jefes, masacrando a su población, y quemando sus hogares,» por orden del virrey la raza era exterminada. Pero los Pames no eran mejores que ellos:
… robaron a los viajeros y comerciantes, luego los asesinaron, y luego se retiraron a sus incursiones en las montañas, inaccesibles para la caballería del rey.
En 1744 el General Escandon atravesó el territorio de los Pames con 2 «cuadrillas» de monjes franciscanos. Un grupo del Colegio de Pachuca se instaló en la orilla oeste del río Moctezuma, y el otro, al que seguiremos, en la orilla este.
El General y el padre Mezquia trazaron una línea en su mapa en forma de trapecio. A lo largo de los lados horizontales deberían fundarse 5 misiones: Jalpan, Landa y Conca en el sur; Tancoyal y Tilaco en el norte. Hay 13 millas de Jalpan a Conca, 21 millas de Jalpan a Tancoyal, 24 millas de Tancoyal a Tilaco, 8 millas de Tilaco a Landa, 13 millas de Landa a Conca. (No, de hecho, no las encontrarás en tu mapa excepto para Jalpan.)
Este trapecio tiene un perímetro de 79 millas.
El General estableció un Presidio (parte de la cual todavía se encuentra en Jalpan como parte del Museo), y dejó a los franciscanos con la responsabilidad de recolectar, convertir¬, y alimentar a los Pames.
Tuvieron éxito en el montaje de 7,406; por la penitencia del auto-sacrificio — comiendo nada sino maíz — ellos establecieron 5 iglesias de emergencia y muchas granjas.
Pero sus números se redujeron y los últimos 4 regresaron al colegio en Pachuca.
FRAY JUNIPERO SERRA
En mayo de 1750 el padre Mezquia eligió diez reclutas recién llegados bajo el liderazgo de Fray Junípero Serra como Prefecto interino para reemplazarlos. Salieron de la ciudad de México a pie el 23 de mayo y llegaron a Jalpan el 16 de junio.
El padre Junípero Serra nació el 24 de noviembre de 1713 en Mallorca, fue ordenado en 1737, y recibió un doctorado en teología en 1743. Anhelaba servir en América. Hizo el viaje a pie para seguir el ejemplo establecido por su héroe personal, Francisco Solano (1549-1610) un misionero Santo que había caminado a través de Perú, Argentina, y Chile para bautizar el sólo a más de 100,000 «aborígenes».
Jalpan, como todas las misiones, se asienta en un cálido y estrecho valle subtropical al pie de una cordillera de miles de metros de altura, y era la sede del esfuerzo franciscano. Cada una de las 5 misiones recibieron 2 ministros, Junípero Serra y Francisco Palou, encargados de Jalpan. (Junípero no se entusiasmó mucho con su título o su tarea y escribió a sus superiores: «o es un honor ser prefecto, y es hora de que alguien más lo disfrute; o es una carga, y es apropiado que se tomen turnos para transportarlo.»)
Pero el dilema, después de todo, era cómo civilizar a estos Pieles-rojas:
Sucio, bullicioso, perezoso, generalmente borracho; en el hábito de mentir, engañar, robar, matar; la gente que suplicaba sin vergüenza y disfrutaba ver el sufrimiento, no sabía nada del sentimiento de honor o de gratitud, parecía susceptible sólo al temor, y consideraba a sus vecinos sólo la gente de su propio clan y parentesco.
Pacificación
Los métodos que el buen Fraile eligió se adaptaron perfectamente a la naturaleza curiosamente degradada de la mayoría de los indios en México. Transformando su alma y su conciencia, a través de la religión. Imbuirlos de amor por el trabajo. ¡Al hacerlos trabajadores y cristianos!
Las mañanas comenzaron en la misión con oraciones y estudio religioso. Ejemplos del comportamiento cristiano eran la base sobre la que se montaba la vida cotidiana de los indios. Por las tardes revisaban las lecciones del día y celebraban la misa.
Se les enseñó a plantar y cuidaron enormes huertos, y comenzaron a criar vacas, cabras, burros, caballos y mulas. Levantaron ovejas y las esquilaron, y a las mujeres se les enseñó a coser, tejer, hacer su propia ropa, crear cerámica, e incluso a tejer cestas. Hicieron aldeanos y granjeros de los nómadas Pames.
Al enseñarles el hábito de dibujar a base de los recursos del suelo, elevaría su nivel de vida, los conduciría a amar esta tierra que cultivaron, como su madre adoptiva y su amiga; y, habiendo sido vagabundos, ya no anhelarían dejarla más.
Sus granjas crecieron en riqueza más y más cada año, llegaron a tener cientos de bueyes para el arado, mulas, vacas y ovejas en abundancia; sus graneros estaban amontonados con maíz y trigo.
Ellos ayudaron a construir la iglesia de estilo churrigueresco que permanece allí todavía en Jalpan. Juan Crespi construyó una igual de bella en Tilaco, y cada uno de los otros 3 pueblos tiene la suya propia, siendo la de Conca la más pequeña.
Fray Junípero vivió su vida como el buen padre Cirilo Conejo Roldán dijo una vez:
Debemos vivir nuestras vidas como mortales, pero debemos construir como eternos.
El éxito espectacular de estos misioneros franciscanos quedó en evidencia hoy en día tanto como lo fue en ese entonces. «El hecho sigue siendo», escribió en su informe «que nuestros 5 pueblos podrían en adelante rivalizar en fervor hasta los pueblos más cristianos de España.»
En junio de 1767 los Jesuitas fueron expulsados de España y de sus territorios por Carlos III. Y así, se retiraron de sus misiones en México dejándolas abandonadas.
Otras órdenes de la iglesia las tomaron y Fray Junípero Serra fue enviado a California, donde construyó más hermosas misiones, las cuales perduraron. Pasó 35 años en la Sierra Gorda y California y murió pacíficamente el 28 de agosto de 1784 a la edad de 70 en su misión en Carmel, California.
El Papa Juan Pablo II comenzó recientemente el proceso de su santificación, por su obra entre los indios, con su beatificación.
Jalpan
Después de una caminata de 199 kilómetros llegamos a la hermosa y pequeña ciudad de Jalpan de Serra, Querétaro. Era el mayor asentamiento de las 5 misiones poco conocidas, que han sido restauradas por el gobierno, establecido por Fray Junípero Serra antes del viaje hacia California. La fachada de la misión que verás aquí es como algo de un libro de cuentos.
Fue restaurada por el gobierno durante la década de 1980
Le sugiero que se quede al menos durante la noche en el hermoso Hotel «Mesón de Fray Junípero Serra», Tel. (429) 6-01-64, o 602-55, para que pueda ver el Museo y el área circundante en su tiempo libre. Se dará cuenta que es muy barato. También por supuesto hay otro hotel a sólo una cuadra de en la autopista 69.
La ciudad es un lugar cálido y acogedor lleno de flores, plantas de plátano y árboles de mango.

Conca
Para ver la otra misión en Conca. Tome la autopista 69 al norte de Jalpan hacia Río Verde. (Es posible que desee guardar esta misión para el final si desea regresar a través de Rio Verde/San Luis Potosi, hay un buen hotel allí «Mesón Conca».) Es la más pequeña de las 5 misiones, pero tiene un vestíbulo muy bonito. Para las otras continúe hacia el este en la autopista 120. Las desviaciones hacia las misiones están bien señalizadas.
Landa
Landa (de Matamoros) es la primera misión a la que llegarás después de salir de Jalpan. Está justo al lado de la autopista 120 a la izquierda y muy fácil de ver. La fachada de la misión es tan intrigante como la de las demás. La modesta Plaza está rodeada de edificios humildes.
Tilaco
Siguiendo por la carretera, llegará a la carretera a su derecha que lo lleva a Tilaco. Estas carreteras fueron construidas, y las misiones restauradas por el pueblo y el gobierno de Querétaro después de que las misiones llegaran a estar en ruinas después de la guerra por la independencia (1810-1821).
La ciudad está situada en un hermoso valle rodeado de imponentes montañas boscosas. Hay un pequeño museo y algunas bodegas interesantes a través de las cuales lo guiarán los lugareños. Desde Tilaco puede verse la montaña conocida como Joya del Hielo (Jewel of the Ice).
Tancoyal
De vuelta en la autopista 120 y continúe por el desvío bien señalizado hacia Tancoyol a la izquierda. Esta es la más lejana de las 5 misiones. La misión con su atrio amurallado se puede ver claramente desde una bonita plaza con su profusión de plantas y árboles.
A partir de aquí uno puede volver de donde vino o continuar hacia la costa del Golfo. Si regresas a Jalpan, es posible que desees conducir hacia el norte hasta Río Verde/San Luis Potosi. Si viene por el camino de terracería de Santa Catarina, es posible que disfrute de regresar por el camino de Bernal para ver la peña de Bernal y luego a Querétaro.
(De regreso a aquellos débiles de corazón. Sigan las señales de carretera claramente marcadas a Querétaro. Al entrar en el área industrial manténgase a la derecha y busquen la salida a México. Esta rampa los lleva a un paso que cruza la autopista de acceso. Sigan por ella hasta que pasen un restaurante Burger King a la derecha. (¡Aquí en México esto es una referencia legítima-!) Cambien en cuanto puedan a la carretera lateral a la derecha.
Tomando su tiempo siga adelante hasta ver un gran acueducto de piedra que pasa por la carretera. Gire a la izquierda, vaya por el paso de arriba, y siga ese camino hacia la Cañada, y siguiendo las señales hacia Tequisquiapan. Manténgase en esta carretera de 2 carriles hasta que la salida a Bernal donde tomará una izquierda. Justo antes de llegar a Bernal, a la derecha, verás un enorme pico de montaña de piedra. Esta es la Peña de Bernal, la roca de Bernal.
Se dice que esta montaña tiene energía mágica y durante los «ritos de primavera» la gente viene de kilómetros alrededor para unir las manos y rodearla en una cadena humana para recibir su energía mágica. La ciudad, a un paso de la autopista a la derecha, es un lugar limpio y orientado al turismo, lleno de buenas posibilidades de compras y restaurantes. (¡Evítelo los fines de semana!).
Saliendo de Bernal siga las indicaciones hacia Jalpan. Pronunciado «Hal pan».) El campo es como se describe por la otra ruta, alto país desértico. En la intersección, Peña Miller a la izquierda, Jalpan a la derecha usted decide si vale la pena un corto desvío para ver esta otra magnífica roca.

The romanized title is not meant to be an English translation at all. It is not half Latin + half English; it is all Latin from start to finish: Puella Magi Madoka Magica. So we shouldn’t read the «Madoka Magica» as if it were English and then wonder at why «Puella Magi» is not English. «Madoka» is the main character’s name (鹿目 まどか), so that word is a native Japanese word. «Magica» is clearly not Japanese or English; it is also Latin. So 3 out of the 4 words are Latin, and the Japanese word is a person’s name, so it would naturally be written «Madoka» in romanized letters when in an all-Latin phrase.
The wiki author makes an alternate hypothesis, saying «If interpreted a different way, ‘the sorcerer’s girl’, it implies that the girls are being used – which they are, by Kyubey,» but since we do know the meaning of «mahou shoujo» due to its use in the many, many magical girls series that Madoka is parodying, we can conclude that it does not in this case have a unique meaning of girls being used. The series is not a mahou shoujo series proper (it is a parody of the genre and is targeted at male viewers, whereas real mahou shoujo are a subset within shoujo, meaning they are targeted at an audience of young girls and if there is a manga origin or adaption, it runs in a shoujo manga magazine), so for it to use the standard style and meaning of a mahou shoujo series best serves its intent at parody.
This anime, like all reasonably well-told stories, is about choices. A hero is given a call, and he makes the choice whether or not to answer it. The hero is challenged by those who share opposing beliefs, and he makes the choice whether or not to heed to their warnings, or face the consequences in confronting them head-on. And for every unexpected change in his plan as a result, the hero is presented with more choices as part of the process of ultimately reaching the goal.
Madoka Kaname, the titular character, is an average girl amongst average girls, brought up in a privileged household. She starts off as a blank slate, slowly taking in experiences brought upon her in the world of mahou shoujo. The choices she makes, particularly in the end, feel realistic given her experiences, and her reactions to them along the way. Aoi Yuuki (Shiki, Sora no Woto) does a fantastic job in bringing Madoka to life in such a way that gradually brings her out of her doubtful shell, into a lady who is confident in the choices that she makes.
When I mean that the series could have been shortened into an OVA, I mean that it could have been told simply from the perspective of Homura in episode 10, as it essentially covers the action that happened in episodes 1-9. In order to not skimp on the details that were omitted in those earlier episodes, episode 10 could be stretched out to perhaps 2 or 3 episodes, followed by the events of the rest of the series, putting a real emphasis on the major plot point revealed in 10. Of course, this means that all the character development and heavy focus on the other characters not named Homura or Madoka will take a hit in their screentime. I do have faith that good writing will make them stand out anyway. They were successful with Mami, given the lack of screen time that she got throughout the show, and I feel that the same effect could have been done with Sayaka and Kyoko. I felt they dragged a little bit in their own developmental episodes, and that perhaps if given the Mami treatment, I would have liked them even more.
This post is not intended to be a review or an overview, what it is intended to be is a collection of negative points and elements that are found within the show called Madoka Magica, which in my opinion are enough to consider the anime to be bad or at the very least, mediocre.
But lets examine the underlying causes that led us here, why is Madoka considered to be something special or something unique? Western anime fans have always had the misconception that the magical girl genre is something that is meant for little girls, thus they did not have high opinions of it, leading to low expectations. Even though if one were to actually look at the statistics and the released magical girl anime, one would find out that most magical girls, like moe anime, are actually primarily made for the male audience. While magical girl anime for little girls also exist, they are in a much smaller number, usually concentrated in long running series such as the Precure series.
E. StoryOnce more nothing new, it takes from Faust as I have already said as well as from other preexisting mahou shoujo shows such as Sailor Moon, Nanoha, Mai Hime and Princess Tutu. Additionally Gen Urobutchi has admitted to taking several elements and high inspiration from the Japanese Sentai Show called Kamen Rider Ryuki.So I went ahead and watched a few dozen episodes of Kamen Rider Ryuki and the similarities were striking.In both show the witches/monsters function exactly the same way, the main characters also usually eliminate then by going into their world and destroying them. In Kamen Rider the Riders are also competing against each other for a wish that the winner will gain.
Just replace Rider with Magical Girl and its almost the same show.(Also from what I watched of Kamen Rider, it was better than Madoka in every aspect with the exception of graphics [if we count the Movie quality for Madoka of course])

People often praise how good the symbolism in Madoka is. I say bullshit. Because the symbolism in Madoka is completely independent and sometimes even out of place from with what is going at the show. Symbolism is only good when it serves a specific purpose or if it is in a direct connection with the themes and messages of the anime, thus contributing to the greater whole (See Evangelion). Symbolism in Madoka is only there so pretentious anime fags can pretend that this is a deep and mature anime, thus validating their own taste.
The TV series version of Madoka, which was the version I watched was atrocious and unfinished, to the point that an entire parody series called Meguca Magica was produced based on how bad everything looked. This was however fixed in later versions and movie releases, where everything looked pretty and crystal clear. But the release of the newer versions is clearly not enough to erase the pain of having watched the original.
Seriously, most of the problems that deal with the characters being horrible and 1 dimensional could have been solved easily if the series had 24 episodes for its leisure. The deaths and the drama would also spread out with the increased number of episodes, making them less shock-factor material. If the show spent like 3-5 episodes on every girl (like it did on Sayaka), then this could actually be a decent anime.
So why did people hype up this mediocrity in the first place? Well it was a magical girl anime, animated by SHAFT of all things and written by the already infamous Gen Urobuchi, had these 2 names not come together, nobody would have cared about Madoka at all. Episode 3 only cemented the hype.
Mainly because I always viewed it as just a cheap cash-grab attempt that was meant to profit off the success of the original without having any merit of its own. (Which is typical of anime movie sequels in general, so my assumptions are quite justified)And secondly, I do not believe that Madoka actually *needed a sequel, the movies are quite unnecessary in my opinion.
